Obituary

June Elizabeth Sorensen Gorrell left this life to begin her new eternal life in heaven on December 30, 2009. She was born the first daughter of Soren and Anne Sorensen on June 5, 1926 in McPherson, Kansas. She met E. David Gorrell in Manhattan, Kansas in 1948 while they both attended Kansas State University. They were married on October 16, 1948 in Topeka, Kansas. This union was blessed with four children, Steven David Gorrell and his wife, Beverly of Thornton, Colorado, Sharon Curt and her husband, Jim of Tulsa, Michael Gorrell and his wife, Bonnie of Tulsa, and Patrick Gorrell and his wife, Jeanette of Tulsa. Recently the couple celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary by hosting a dinner for their children and spouses. They moved to Tulsa in October, 1998 after living in the Independence and Neodesha, Kansas communities since 1951. June worked in the office of Wilson County Hospital for seven years and later retired from M-E-C Company in Neodesha after 22 years as Executive Secretary to the President.
June was a devoted Christian, loving and caring wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of Kirk of the Hills, Presbyterian in Tulsa. She was an active member of Presbyterian Women of the Kirk, the Kirk Dinner Club and the Tulsa Knife and Fork Club. She was member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and a fifty year member of the Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club.
Surviving members of her family include her husband, E. David Gorrell, her sister, Lenore Carpenter of Great Bend, Kansas, all of her children, eleven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at Kirk of the Hills, Presbyterian Church on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas.
