Obituary

June Rosalie McCall, daughter of Julius and Maude (Ellis) Ehlermann, was born on June 1st, 1923 in Barnesville, OH. On February 10, 2014, at 90 years of age, she passed away at the home she shared with her husband, Al, at St. Simeon's in Tulsa, OK.

June grew up in Barnesville and then, as her mother desired a Catholic education for her daughter, spent her high school years as a weekday boarder at Mount de Chantal Academy in Wheeling, WV. She graduated from the Academy in 1941 and remained a devoted alumnae her entire life.

On a lucky Friday the 13th, while working in Dayton, OH as a civilian employee at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, June met Albert McCall, a Corporal in the Army Air Corps. Following a six-week, whirlwind courtship, they were married on May 28th, 1945. Shortly thereafter, Al shipped out for service as a WWII weather watcher in India.

After the war, she and Al attended the University of Michigan for a year and then hopped the "Texas Chief" to the University of Oklahoma. June studied music at OU while Al completed his degree in Petroleum Engineering.

After a short, but much enjoyed, stint in Amarillo, TX, June and Al moved to Tulsa in 1956. Their daughter, Karen, was born here in 1957.

June was an early and lifelong supporter of Animal Aid, serving both as an animal rescuer and board member. She also was active in the Newcomers' Club and various garden clubs. Her passion was bridge, earning enough points to qualify for ACBL Life Master status and, along the way, making lifelong friends in Tulsa's bridge community.

June and Al spent their leisure years in Angel Fire, NM and Sun Lakes, AZ. At the latter, June volunteered with the St. Vincent de Paul Society feeding migrant workers in the fields and supporting education on the nearby Maricopa reservation. June and Al returned to Tulsa in 2004 to allow more time with their grandsons.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Albert D. McCall, her daughter, Karen McCall Dunning and husband Lee, and grandsons Ian and Payton Dunning.

The family would like to thank Ethel Harmon, D.O., Eran Eaton, Senior Helpers, and Grace Hospice for assisting with the care that allowed June to remain at home during her extended illness.

A funeral Mass will be held Monday, 2/17/14 at the Church of the Resurrection, followed by a reception, and internment at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Animal Aid of Tulsa, Inc. or your favorite charity.
