Katherine Marie Gibson, age 17, died on October 6, 2024 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born the youngest of four on January 4, 2007 to parents Andrea Lawrence Gibson and Michael Shawn Gibson. She was a senior at Union Alternative School in the class of 2025 and was on target to graduate early this coming March. She enjoyed her first job as a cashier with Southwood Landscape and Garden Center where she worked with her older brother, enjoyed interacting with coworkers and surprised herself by doing very well in a role that was far outside her comfort zone. She recently expressed interest in being a police dispatch following graduation and planned to attend Tulsa Community College.
Katherine was lovingly referred to by her family as Kate, Kitty or Baby Kate. She adored her dog Romeo, a rescued Anatolian Shepherd and her three cats Pippin, Kilo and Maru. A lover of nature and animals, Kate often spread joy by caring for and placing homeless kittens in good homes, helping her friends feed and cover vet bills and being a resource for others who found themselves in hard situations. She loved riding horses, knitting, photography, and spending time with her siblings. She called it how it was, forgave quickly and easily, didn't sweat the small stuff and loved deeply with a heart that had no bounds.
Her family and friends will always remember her as a baby sister, a loving daughter that was vulnerable and incredibly strong, a cousin and niece that had a special inner light and a friend that put herself second in the service of others.
She is survived by her parents, three siblings - Taylor, Avery and Caden, her 92-year-old grandfather, Robert Lawrence, her NiNi, Sharon Gibson and a cadre of cousins, 2nd cousins, aunts and uncles. She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Arlene Lawrence and her pawpaw, Gary Gibson.
A rosary will be said 10:30 am, Saturday, October 12 followed by a Funeral Mass, 11:00 am, Saturday, on October 12, 2024, both at Saint Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church. Flowers and/or memorial donations can be sent to St. Bernard's Catholic Church at 4001 E. 101st Street, Tulsa, OK 74137.
