Katherine Nora Sulzbach Hoover Mills
August 2, 1921 – August 6, 2018
Katherine Nora Sulzbach Hoover Mills passed away peacefully August 6, 2018 with family by her side. A lifelong native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, she was born at St. John's Hospital August 2, 1921 to parents Nora and Fred Sulzbach. Katherine grew up in Christ the King Parish, attended Marquette Schools graduating from Central High in 1939. She married her tall dark and handsome James Oran Hoover in 1940. They were married 56 years and raised seven children. Their family grew to include 22 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren. After the loss of her husband Oran, she married sweet and gentle Earnest Mills. They were together for 12 years before Ernie's passing in 2012.
St. Catherine's Parish became central in her life with Oran in the 40's where they chose to worship and raise their children. She was a member of the Altar Society and together they served the church and school in many ways over the years.
After retirement, she volunteered with the Auxiliary at Tulsa Regional Hospital. She also enjoyed participating with the Chip Chatter's Club of the Northeast Oklahoma Woodcarver's Association.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband James Oran Hoover, son and wife Bill and Pat Hoover, grandson Bobby Hoover, sister Betty Sposato , brothers Fred and Jack Sulzbach. She is survived by children John Hoover(Linda), Jerry Hoover, Gilbert Hoover (Beverly) Kathy Hoover-Lampkin, Helen Lampkin (Steve), JoAnn McGrew (Nathan) and her multitude of grands, great grands, and great-great grands.
She was blessed to have 97 long years and we were blessed to have her that long. Her family will miss their mom, grandma, grandma Katherine, Great Kate, and favorite Aunt Katherine. We will fondly remember her commitment to her faith, her dedication to her family and her quick wit and sassy words that she was never shy to share.
In lieu of flowers, gifts to honor Katherine may be made to St. Catherine's Parish 4532 S. 25th W. Ave. Tulsa, OK 74017.
Rosary will be Friday August 10, 7 pm with Funeral Mass on Saturday 10 am. both at St. Catherine's Church, Tulsa OK. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
