Obituary

Kay passed away peacefully into God's care on May 28, 2012. She
was born Kathleen Mae Hourigan
in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Maurice
and Elizabeth Hourigan on February
15, 1924. She graduated from
Tulsa Central High school where
she met her high school sweetheart,
Joseph Ross Thornton.
They were married in 1945 while
Joe was on military leave after his
return from a deployment to the
European Theater of Operations
where he was part of the D-Day invasion
force. They shared a full and exciting life together
until Joe's untimely passing in 1983.

In the following years, Kay met and married
Wayman Earl Humphrey in 1985. Wayman
and Kay embarked on a new life together
while enriching the lives of a growing family
until Wayman's passing in 1999. After that
Kay dedicated her life to her extended family
and loving friends. She was a great inspiration
to all who knew and loved her, showing
us how to live, laugh and love one another.

Kay was a devout Catholic and a life-long
parishioner of Christ the King Church,
serving in numerous church organizations
including The Saint Charles Guild. She was
a Lady of the Equestrian Order of the Holy
Sepulchre, grade of Dominam a Commenda.

Kay was a dedicated patron of the arts, a
member of the Ruskin Art Club, Philbrook
and Gilcrease Art Museums. She
frequented The Tulsa Ballet, The
Tulsa Opera and The Tulsa Philharmonic.
She was a contributing
member of the Junior League
of Tulsa and a life-long member
of Southern Hills Country Club.

She is survived by her children,
Joseph Stephen Thornton and
wife Lyndia, Plano, Texas; Kathleen
Thornton Moehling and
husband Richard, Tulsa; grandchildren
Ross, Susan, Erik, Abigail
and Stephen; great grandchildren Jackson,
Colin, Sydney and Quinn; stepdaughters
Linda Humphrey Robertson and husband
Clio; the late Sandra Humphrey Michaels;
their children and grandchildren. Other
family members include Saralu Mills Thornton,
Tulsa; Elisabeth McConnell Ellis, Austin,
Texas; Nancy Phelps, Aptos, California,
and many other loving relatives and friends.

Rosary was said 6:30 p.m., Wednesday at
Christ the King Catholic Church. Mass of
Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m., Thursday,
May 31, 2012, at Christ the King. Entombment
will follow at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
