Obituary

Kathryn "Kathy" Huber Detrick, 72, died peacefully at her home in Dallas, Texas, on January 19, 2025. Born on March 29, 1952, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Rita Waltz Huber and Alvin Jerome Huber.

Kathy attended Saints Peter and Paul, and St. Pius X during her grade school years, before beginning high school at Monte Cassino and graduating from Memorial High School in 1970. After high school, Kathy earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design from the University of Oklahoma.

Leveraging these credentials and her natural keenness for problem-solving, she built a successful career in real estate, where she worked for more than thirty years specializing in space planning, design, and commercial construction management. She later completed a Master of Science degree in Environmental Science, which led her to a position at Ursuline Academy (Dallas, TX) teaching high school Environmental Science and Biology. Upon leaving her post at Ursuline, she returned to a career as an executive in the Dallas commercial real estate market.

Kathy combined resourcefulness with creativity in both her professional and personal life. She was a natural teacher who sought to share her talents and expand her knowledge across a multitude of topics. She approached life with a mixture of strong principles and a genuine interest in understanding different perspectives. More than most other activities, she found true peace and joy from playing folk songs on the guitar among family, coming up with impressively creative, personalized gifts for loved ones, and giving unconditional love, unwavering attention, and support to her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rita Waltz Huber, and Alvin Jerome Huber. She is survived by her siblings, Annie (and Terry Malloy), Karen (and Charlie Nickel), Paul (and Cheryl O'Brien), John (and Kathy O'Bryan), and Jim (and Julie Clay), as well as her children, Dustin Detrick (and Laura Montoya), and Lindsay (and Bryan Winkler), and ?ve properly spoiled and loving grandchildren: Charlie and Rudy (Detrick), and Hadley, Jones, and Colbie (Winkler).

Kathy had extraordinary levels of inner strength, focus, and love. Her entire core was selflessness and serving the needs and wants of others, making an impression that can never be replaced or erased.
