Laura Louella Kershner Wilson was born July 31, 1930, to Frederick Vance and Calista Kershner in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She graduated from Central High School, Tulsa University, and Oklahoma State University, earning an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a Masters in Early Childhood Development.
Her teaching career included twelve years at Channing Day School in All Souls Unitarian Church, later serving as the Director. She further shared her love of knowledge, teaching as a professor at Rogers State University in Claremore and Tulsa Community College.
She married Thomas Wilson June 21, 1974. They enjoyed 43 years together, raising children, traveling the world, serving the community, and loving each other. Laura was passionate about helping people, and served as a mentor for at-risk children, a tutor for adults learning English as a second language, completed tax forms for those in need, served meals at the Iron Gate, and volunteered on a RAIN team.
Laura is survived by: her husband, Thomas; her four children: Mimi Helton, Darby Barksdale and her husband, Glen Barksdale, Douglas Reid Wixson and his wife, Teresa Wixson, and Robert Wilson and his wife, Anne Handley; her five grandchildren: Gus Stout, Kevin Snell and his wife, Linda Snell, Bron Helton, Aaron Wixson, and Max Wixson; two great-grandchildren, Layla Snell and Ari Snell; and her sisters, Cindy Fahs and her husband Ted, and Teddy Hanson and her husband, John.
A memorial service will be at St. John's Episcopal Church at 10:00 AM, Friday June 30th. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Tulsa Public Library, Animal Aid, or a charity of your choice.
