Obituary

Laura Adele "Laurie" Barrios, 90, died peacefully while surrounded by family on October 20, 2011, at St. Simeon's in Tulsa, OK.

She was born February 11, 1921, in Shreveport, LA, to Jack and Catherine (Posey) Barrios. She married Cecil Masson Griffin on August 11, 1956. In her younger years, she worked for Greene and Andress Real Estate.

Her beautiful memory is survived by her loving children: Charles Griffin of Houston, TX; Paul Griffin of Dallas, TX; Cathy Walter of Tulsa, OK; Mary Griffin of Tulsa, OK; and granddaughter Ashley Griffin of Dallas, TX.

Laurie was an only child and always dreamt of having a large family to love and care for. After marrying Cecil, her prayer was answered and God blessed her with four adoring children: Charles, Paul, Cathy and Mary. She often referred to the time she spent raising us as the best years of her life, and we would have to agree that they were also some of the best years of ours.

In her earlier years, mom worked as a secretary for the Shreveport Club and, on occasion, she would be asked to take over for the bartender. Always a beaufiful, classy woman, she really got a kick out of those businessmen. Her spirit was effervescent, and she enjoyed golfing and dancing. She was also fiery in the kitchen and was an excellent Creole cook. The four of us kids have fond memories of mom and dad making Gumbo and red beans and rice together. She even passed a few of her famous recipes to her granddaughter, Ashley, who cherishes the many warm memories they shared in the kitchen making sweets.

Mom always had a heart for the less fortunate and when she moved to Tulsa, she became involved in volunteering at the Head Start Program and the Francis Willard Home for Girls. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and always had an unwavering faith in God. She would regularly attend morning mass at St. Francis with her good friends, followed by meeting for coffee and sharing stories.

She was loved by all who had the privilege of meeting her, and she will be dearly missed. We love you mom, and we know you will be looking down on us always.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 24, 2011, at the Chapel of Calvary Cemetery.
