Obituary

Laura Belle (Martin) Porter
May 6, 1928 - November 4, 2024

With hearts full of love, the family of Laura Belle Porter celebrates her remarkable life of 96 years. Born on May 6, 1928, in Clay Center, Kansas, Laura moved with her family in 1936 to Enid, Oklahoma, where she spent nearly her entire life. Raised by her loving parents, Harry and Golda Martin, she was the eldest of four children, offering strength and care to her siblings throughout their lives.

Laura met the love of her life, Bob L. Porter, shortly after he returned from the war. They married in November of 1947, building a beautiful life together and raising three beloved children. Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Bob (1996); their daughter, Nancy Jo Porter Welch Owen (2020); their son, Bob L. Porter Jr. (2024); and her brother, Gerald Martin (2024).

Laura's life in Enid was filled with rich friendships and community ties. She developed many lifelong connections with her involvement in the Enid Social Club and with her long-standing membership at Redeemer Lutheran Church. She always enjoyed traveling to visit family but loved more than anything being back in her warm and inviting home. She always had a song in her heart. Though many of her dear friends from Enid passed before her, she remained close with those who were still with her, as well as their families, maintaining cherished connections across generations.

In the final chapter of her life, Laura moved to Tulsa to be closer to family, though her heart always remained with the community she loved in Enid. She is survived by her daughter, Robin Michelle (Porter) Milton (James); her brother, Earl Martin; her sister, Norma (Martin) McGuire; her nine grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Laura's legacy is one of kindness, strength, and a deep love for family and friends. Her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her. Services will be on Saturday, November 9, 11:00 am, at St. Simeon's Senior Community Chapel in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her final resting place will be at the Enid Cemetery in Enid, Oklahoma.
