Obituary

Lawrence Neil "Bud" McKelvey, Jr., 92, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at his home in Tulsa. Bud was born on July 3, 1923, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Lawrence N. and Kathryn McKelvey. He graduated from Marquette High School and also Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Bud served in the "Fighting 69th" in the U. S. Armed Forces during World War II. He received the World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon and Two Bronze Service Stars. Bud started his career at Vulcan Tank and worked for McKelvey Steel, Braden Winch and retired from Flint Steel. He loved camping, fishing, trains, animals and he had a lifetime love of photography. He loved tinkering in his shop. If he couldn't find what he wanted, he built it.
Bud was preceded in death by his beloved son, Larry, his parents and sister, Peggy McAulay. He is survived by his wife, Katherine "Kay" McKelvey, his son, Jerry McKelvey & wife Elizabeth; daughters, Theresa McMahon & husband Bryan, Kathy McKelvey, Laurie McKelvey, Margie Callahan & husband Steve, and Loretta Stutsman & husband John. He was a proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Bud and Kay have been married for 66 years. They were founding members of Church of St. Mary. Visitation will be at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel on Thursday, May 5 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. at the Church of St. Mary in Tulsa.
