Leo V. Framel, Jr.
Leo V. Framel, Jr., 79, died on Thursday, April 28, 2011. Leo, son of Leo V. Framel, Sr. and Amelia Denne Framel, was born May 19, 1931 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
He attended St. Boniface grade school in Fort Smith and graduated from Subiaco Academy in 1949. After serving in the United States Army during the Korean War, Leo attended the University of Tulsa. He graduated with honors in 1957 and received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting.
Leo's profession started with an accounting position at the Oil & Gas Journal in Tulsa that led to a long and rewarding career in the soft drink business. In 1961 he joined Beverage Products Corporation, Tulsa, Oklahoma, as controller and was promoted to vice president- treasurer in 1964. In 1970 Leo became president- general manager of Lake Country Beverage, Inc., Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he worked until his retirement in 1996.
Leo married the love of his life, the former Martha Smith of Fort Smith, Arkansas, on July 19, 1950. One of Leo's proudest moments was the celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary on July 19, 2010. Leo and Martha are members of Church of the Resurrection parish in Tulsa, Oklahoma and in 1998 Leo served as parish chairman for the Diocese of Tulsa Fund for the Future Capital Campaign.
Leo was a devoted supporter of the Subiaco Alumni Association having served over ten years on the Board of Directors and was Board Chairman for three years. He also served as the former President of the Alumni Association, on the executive committee of the Subiaco Renewal 21 Building Campaign, as a member of the Subiaco 2000 Scholarship Committee, and was recognized as a Distinguished Alumni in 2001.
Leo was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. He is a past member of the President's Board of the University of Tulsa Alumni Association and he also served on the Royal Crown Bottlers Association Board of Directors and Marketing Committee for many years.
In 1986, Leo was inducted into Tulsa Bishop Kelley High School Hall of Fame for his service, support and dedication to the school.
Leo is survived by his wife Martha, four children, and one son-in-law: Debbie Framel, Karen Framel, Susan Weeldreyer and husband John, and Richard Framel, all of Tulsa. Leo's life was greatly enriched by his three grandchildren, Eric Weeldreyer, Sarah Weeldreyer, and Sebastian Balletto Framel, all of Tulsa. Other survivors include his beloved brothers and sisters: John Framel and wife Phyllis of Freeport, PA, Bill Framel and wife Mary Lou of Overland Park, KS, Jim Framel and wife Karen of Broken Arrow, OK, Carolyn Timmermeyer and Mary Self, both of Fort Smith, AR, along with many precious nieces and nephews. Visitation 3-5pm, Sunday, May 1 at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel. Rosary 7pm, Sunday, May 1 at Church of the Resurrection. Mass of Christian Burial 2pm, May 2 at Church of the Resurrection with the Interment at Calvary Cemetery in Tulsa.
