Life of Leo Albert Schumacher III

Today, we gather to remember, honor, and celebrate the life of Leo Albert Schumacher III, a man whose life was shaped by family, education, service, friendship, and the memories he leaves behind.

Al was born on March 30, 1945, in Montevideo, Minnesota, to Leo Albert Schumacher Jr. and Alice Donner. He was baptized in the Roman Catholic Church on April 24, 1945, beginning a life rooted in faith and family.

As a young boy, Al attended Mount Vernon Elementary School in Illinois and Monroe Elementary School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His educational journey eventually brought him to Tulsa, where he attended Bishop Kelley High School and graduated in 1963.

Al continued his education and commitment to service by completing two years of military training through the Reserve Officers' Training Corps between 1963 and 1965.

Al attended He then attended Oklahoma State University, where he pursued his studies in Agriculture and Applied Science, graduating with his bachelor's degree in 1968.

Following graduation, Al answered the call to serve his country. In 1968, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served and attained the rank of Sergeant. He received an honorable discharge in 1974.

After his military service, Al began work at Mercantile Bancorporation in St. Louis. As an IT specialist, he was instrumental in Mercantile bank's conversions to a CDS system. This conversion process developed by Al and Don Noeth, was used in at least 22 Mercantile Bank conversions!

Upon retirement from the Bank, Al made his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to help with the care of his parents.

The most positive event in Al's later life, post Y2K, was meeting Marie Rodriguez , his friend and caregiver. She provided Al comfort, dignity, friendship and compassion during the last 3 years.

Today, we remember not only the milestones and accomplishments that marked Al's journey, but also the person behind them.

His life was a journey that took him from Minnesota to Illinois, Oklahoma City, and ultimately Tulsa. Along the way, he received an education, served his country, established a home, and formed a special companionship with Marie.

As we say goodbye, may we remember Al with gratitude and respect. May his years of service, his accomplishments, and the memories shared with those who knew him remain a lasting part of his legacy.

Leo Albert Schumacher III lived a life that deserves to be remembered and honored.

May he rest in eternal peace, and may those who loved him find comfort in the memories they will carry in their hearts forever.

Rest in peace, Al. You will be remembered.
