Leon Curry was born on February 9, 1950, in Ramer, Alabama, to the late Henry L. Curry Sr. and Katrice Johnson Curry. He peacefully passed away on August 29, 2024, in his hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 74.
Leon is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of four years, Valerie Curry, and his two cherished daughters, Amber Curry and Katherine Mai.
Leon proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After his honorable military service, he pursued a successful career in new home construction, dedicating over 30 years to the industry.
Outside of work, Leon was passionate about basketball and was a lifelong fan of the L.A. Lakers. He also enjoyed collecting antique cars, a hobby that brought him great joy over the years.
Leon accepted Christ at a young age and was a faithful member of Victory Christian Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His faith guided him throughout his life and provided a foundation of strength and love.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Katrice Curry; as well as his brothers, Wilson Carter Jr., Arthur Lee Curry, Stanley Curry, and Roosevelt Curry; and his sisters, Vanessa Dale Curry Burns and Bessie Curry Harris.
In addition to his wife and daughters, Leon is survived by his three brothers, Henry L. Curry Jr. of Glen Burnie, MD; James Edward Richardson of Birmingham, AL; and Farris (Deborah) Curry of Portugal. He also leaves behind four sisters, Aretha Tucker of Warrensville, OH; Emma (Leslie) Harris; Bernice Curry; and Janette (Leonard) Slater, all of Montgomery, AL; sister-in-laws, Glenda Curry and Kristy Curry, both of Tulsa, and Delois Curry, of Montgomery, AL; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many beloved friends.
Leon will be buried at Fort Gibson National Cemetery, on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 1:30 p.m., with military honors.
