Liliana Celia Schechter, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and physician, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, at the age of 71, with her children by her side in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
She was born on February 8, 1954, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Josef and Pola Farina, both Shoah survivors. Liliana grew up in Buenos Aires and became, at the time, the youngest person to graduate from the Universidad de Buenos Aires Facultad de Medicina in 1977.
Throughout her life, Liliana was an outgoing, caring, and supportive light. In 1977, she married her high school sweetheart, Ruben, and together they immigrated to New York City in 1978. She completed her residency in Memphis, followed by a geriatric psychiatry fellowship in St. Louis, and eventually planted roots in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Liliana's legacy is deeply rooted in both her family and her dedication to psychiatric care. For more than twenty years, she commuted between Tulsa, Vinita, and other small towns, where she made a lasting impact on the lives of the patients she served in rural Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Josef and Pola Farina; her brother, Henrico Farina; her husband, Ruben Schechter; and her companion, David Kimmel.
Liliana is survived by her son, Jonathan Schechter, his wife Kami, and their children Tzipporah, Reuven, and Ori of Philadelphia; her daughter, Paola Klein, her husband Ari, and their children Mylin and Rai of Oklahoma City; and her sister-in-law, Claudia Schechter of New York.
A graveside service will be held on October 10, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, located at 4161 E Admiral Pl, Tulsa, OK. Friends, family, and all who knew Liliana are warmly invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Liliana's memory to the Alzheimer's Association
