Obituary

Luellyn Wright was born October 18, 1928 to James Paul Wright and Mildred Irene Montgomery Wright in Bartlesville, OK, and passed away October 8, 2022, in Tulsa, OK.

Luellyn graduated from Bartlesville College High School in 1946 and then Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater in 1950. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and graduated with a degree in journalism. At what later would become Oklahoma State University, she cultivated an interest in public relations and advertising - and took her initial employment with Tracy-Locke in Dallas, where her work focused on the Frito Lay and Imperial Sugar accounts. She thus embraced the challenge of building a career in a large unfamiliar city, an adventurous path for a single woman in the early 1950's. Her career spanned over 30 years as a copy writer and account executive for firms in Dallas, Houston (The Bloom Agency) and Denver. In 1981 she chose to leave the commercial advertising world and moved from Houston to Booker, TX to be near her sister, Helaine Lemon, and to work for First Bank & Trust where her brother-in-law, Glen Lemon, was the CEO. A few years after Glen died in a private plane crash in 1986, Lu and Helaine moved to Tulsa to be near her nephew (Helaine's son), Marcus Lemon and his family as well as Lu and Helaine's mother, Mildred Wright, in Bartlesville.

Lu was an accomplished gourmet cook who loved sharing meticulously prepared dishes with family and guests. She once so impressed her grand-nephew Gabriel with a delicious Thanksgiving dessert that he described the experience as "life changing." Lu had authored "My First Cook Book" for the Imperial Sugar Company in the early 1960's and it became a staple in novice kitchens across the country. She loved reading and appreciated music, dance and theatre, the OSU Cowboys, the Dallas Cowboys and the music of Patsy Cline. She also loved gardening and small dogs, especially her toy poodle, Ginger. Older sister Luellyn was a loyal, loving companion for Helaine. Her nephews and extended family deeply appreciated her remarkable resilience and her devotion to sister through health struggles in Helaine's later years. Lu cherished time with her family and especially enjoyed attending OSU athletic and cultural events. She appreciated being able to reside at the Montereau retirement community for several years with her sister. Her loved ones will miss her exceptionally witty and heartfelt cards, letters and notes.

Luellyn was predeceased by her parents, and her sister. She is survived by two nephews, Marcus Wright Lemon of Tulsa and his wife Susan, and Martin Edward Lemon and his wife Lori of Warrenville, IL; and their extended families Laura Lemon and her husband Evan, and children Ella and Jude of Nashville, TN, Colton Edwards of Tulsa, OK, Gabriel Lemon of Dallas, TX and Victoria Lemon of Warrenville, IL. Funeral arrangements are with Fitzgerald's and a memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, November 25, 2022 at Montereau Chapel in Tulsa, OK. The family requests any memorials be made to the Oklahoma State University Foundation (Glen and Helaine Lemon Memorial Scholarship) @OSUGiving.com.
