On March 10, 2023, Madan (Mak) Makhani of Tulsa, OK died at the age of 85 after a brief illness. Mak was born to Gulzar Singh Makhni and Mohinder Kaur Makhni in 1937 in Amritsar, Punjab, India. He received multiple degrees in India, Switzerland, and United States. On March 8th, 1957 he arrived in the United States to begin his life and career. After time in Michigan, Georgia, and Florida, he permanently moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he started,
co-owned and operated American Castings, later to become American Foundry Group until his retirement in 1999. In June 1972, he married Betty Jean Lowder and together they raised their son, Jogi and his daughters Madana and Indra from a previous marriage.
Mak enjoyed golfing, many travels with his wife, Betty, sharing stories of his fascinating life, going to the casinos and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Mak is preceded in death by his father Gulzar and mother Mohinder, brother Joginder Singh Makhani, and sister Inder Jeet. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Makhani, three children; daughters Madana Makhani and Indra Makhani, and son Jogi Makhani (wife Kristin). three grandchildren; grandsons Dakhari Makhani and Spencer Makhani, and granddaughter Avery Makhani, brother Mohinther Singh Makhani, and several nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 15th, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Fitzgerald's Southwood Colonial Chapel. A public memorial service will be held at Fitzgerald's Southwood Colonial Chapel, on Friday, March 16th, 2023 at 1:00 pm. Internment at Calvary Cemetery and a reception immediately following at Fitzgerald's Family Center.
