Margaret V. Cipolla, 85, of Jenks, Oklahoma, died in peace on March 29, 2023.
Early Life
Margaret was born on December 4, 1938, in Kansas City, Missouri, to William A. and Eileen J. Audley. She grew up in Kansas City with her seven brothers and sister, which made for an eventful childhood with many colorful stories she was quick to share. As a girl, she attended Cathedral Catholic and Sacred Heart grade schools, and Redemptorist High School. Margaret served on the Redemptorist Rockets cheerleading squad, and during her senior year, she was crowned Prom Queen in addition to serving as Student Council President.
While visiting Grandview Beach on July 4, 1960, she met the love of her life, Dick Cipolla. He was a lifeguard, and Margaret would often tell the story of walking by Dick's lifeguard stand multiple times to get his attention. Dick and Margaret married on January 27, 1962, and celebrated 60 years of marriage on January 27, 2022 (and were working on 61 years of marriage at the time of Dick's passing in October 2022).
Dick and Margaret were blessed with two children, Richard J. Cipolla, Jr., and Patrick W. Cipolla.
Family, Career & Community Service
Margaret dedicated much of her life to caring for Dick and her sons. After residing in Kansas City, work took the family to Atlanta, Georgia; San Mateo, California; and eventually Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where Margaret and Dick made many lifelong friends.
Margaret was always involved with her sons' activities as well as her church and community. With her boys, she was active in the Cub Scouts; she volunteered for many roles at Ranch Heights Elementary School; she served as Team Mother for their various sports teams, and was active in the Sooner High School Booster Club. She loved ballgames, especially those involving her sons. You would often hear Margaret shouting, "Give it a ride!" and "Straighten it out!" at baseball games around the state.
As the number of her grandchildren grew, she was an enthusiastic attendee at their sporting, school, social, and professional events-always present with a smile to support them in anything they did, and eager to make sure they were dressed to the nines while they did it.
Margaret worked at AT&T after her high school graduation. She was also a receptionist at Don Koppel Realtors in Bartlesville for several years, and worked at MedSource Corporation in Dewey, Oklahoma. She attended both St. James and St. John's Catholic Churches in Bartlesville, and later, St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Tulsa.
She volunteered for many years at the Green Country Free Clinic, which provided free health care and medications to those in the Bartlesville area who could not afford them and were not eligible for other programs. Margaret was always there for those in need. She never wanted anyone to be cold and gave a countless number of coats away to those who may not have been able to afford "a good warm coat."
Margaret was a woman of faith and deeply loved her family. In 2001, she and Dick moved to Jenks to be closer to their grandchildren. Her family will treasure memories of big Italian dinners (meatballs and spaghetti), St. Patrick's Day celebrations, tins of elaborate Christmas cookies, vacations to Hawaii, and her penchant for lovingly telling it like it was. Her wit and wisdom will live on through the adages she often shared: Cold hands mean a warm heart; those who won't listen must feel; and if somebody starts a fight, you finish it.
Margaret is survived by her sons, Richard (and wife Kim) and Patrick (and wife Stephanie); her grandchildren, Kelsey (and husband John), Whitney, Jessica, and John Michael; her siblings, Michael Audley, Pat Audley, Bob Audley, John Audley, Tom Audley (and wife Michelle), Mary Clarke (and husband Ron); brother-in-law, Larry Cipolla (and wife Gail); her sister-in-law, Mary Jo Cipolla (and husband Frank) and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Immediate family members whose passings preceded Margaret's include her parents, William and Eillen Audley; siblings, Bill Audley and Jim Audley; her beloved grandson, William Patrick Cipolla, among many other relatives.
She will be missed beyond measure.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, 4001 E. 101st Street, Tulsa, OK 74137. Interment will follow in the columbarium at Saint Bernard's Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to an organization close to Margaret's heart, such as Jenks CarePoint, a Christian-based ministry which serves as the primary clothing closet for Jenks Public Schools, providing clothing and shoes to all ages, free of charge, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
