Suzanne LaFortune Wood, 88, of Fairfax, Virginia , passed away peacefully with daughters by her side on March 9, 2021 in Fairfax, Virginia.
Suzanne (Suzie) was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to the late Fred and Erma LaFortune. Suzie graduated from Marquette Catholic High School in 1950. She attended Oklahoma State University where she met and then married the late Colonel Carl E. Wood, USAF (ret.) in 1952. As an Air Force wife she lived in many areas of the United States and in Germany.
Suzie developed a passion for the dog show arena, where she successfully showed several of her bloodhounds to their Champion titles. Her ultimate dog show experience was taking Barney to the Westminister Dog Show at Madison Square Garden in New York where he placed 1st in the hound group. Her other hobbies included gardening, especially hostas. She also loved to be behind the wheel; she drove a school bus for Fairfax County Public Schools for 20 plus years and loved taking road trips to visit family across the country.
Suzie is survived by her sisters and their husbands; Colette and Thomas Pogue, Renee and Wesley Harris; her daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Charlie Bond, Kathy and Jimmy Bonzano and Judy and Geoff Allen; her 12 grandchildren: Christina Mobus, Sarah Roser, Joseph Bond, Daniel Bond, Laura Bond, Christopher Bond, Brittany Knowlan, Nichole Bonzano, Dominic Bonzano, Natalie Bonzano, Ashley Allen and Geoffrey Allen II. Suzie was preceded in death by her brother Richard LaFortune and daughter Marianne Neidig.
The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
