Marillyn Greenberg, who lived most of her life in Tulsa, Oklahoma, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday morning, October 9 in Los Angeles, California. Born Marillyn Hersh in Wichita, Kansas, she married Tulsa native Samuel Robert "Bobby" Greenberg in 1956.
Marillyn loved Tulsa and was well known in its Jewish community and beyond. She competed for years in 5 and 10K distance racing, consistently finishing at or near the top of her age group. She also taught exercise classes for many years, taking special pride in making strong men half her age sore and exhausted.
An animal lover, Marillyn had dogs from when she was a little girl in Wichita. Several of her dogs competed in agility, and her Shih-Tzu, Barney, was nationally ranked. In her later years Marillyn taught puppy classes as a volunteer at the Tulsa Dog Training Club. She became so well-known, as a "puppy whisperer", that The Tulsa World did a feature article about her.
Marillyn also collected novelty teapots, accumulating hundreds over the years.
More than anything, though, Marillyn loved and devoted her life to her kids and grandkids. She is survived by her son, Avrom, and his daughter, Elianna, of Greenwich, CT; and by her daughter, Hilary, and her children, Jacob and Emery, of Los Angeles, CA.
Graveside services will take place at Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, on Thursday, October 13th, 12:00 p.m., where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved Bobby.
