Obituary

Marlys Jean Fecht, 86, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away on June 14, 2020. Marlys was born on December 1, 1933, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Lee and Etta Wentworth. She graduated from West High School, class of 1951, in Waterloo, Iowa.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, whose faith, relationship, and time spent with the Lord, was very important to her. After this, the most important things to her, were spending time with her family and enjoying life with them. To those that knew her personally, and worked with her, she was known as the mouse lady because of her collection of mice, not the real ones.
Marlys enjoyed art. She especially enjoyed drawing, sketching, and painting things that held meaning to her, such as her pets and flowers that she grew in her garden. Gardening was another talent of hers. She loved to work on her garden and enjoy the beauty of the flowers that she grew, especially the roses which she would often paint.
Baking/cooking was something that she enjoyed to do for her family and friends, and she was especially good at it. She would often bake goodies for her family to enjoy during the week, and she enjoyed baking them almost as much as her family enjoyed eating them, along with her holiday meals. She passed on this talent and love of baking/cooking to her grandson Jonathon, and they started cooking holiday meals together.
Jigsaw puzzles were a favorite pastime of hers, and the more challenging the better. She also enjoyed watching sports with her grandson and loved animals, especially dogs. From her first dog Trixie to her grand dog Droopy, whom she would spend the day talking to, looking out the window, playing with, and going on walks with, in the backyard.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Donna and Lorraine Wentworth. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Vernon, her four daughters: Cynthia O'Connell and Deborah Castillo, both of Waterloo, Iowa, Lori O'Connell of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Sandra Jones of San Diego, California. Her grandchildren: Paul and Joshua (Cynthia), Sarah and April (Deborah), Jonathon (Lori), and Stella (Sandra), and her six great grandchildren, her cousin Billy Spicer of Marion, Iowa, who she thought of more like a brother, and also her grand dog Droopy of Tulsa.
She was a genuinely kind lady with a big heart that saw the good in everyone that she met. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but would want us all to celebrate her life, and take peace in knowing that she is home with her Heavenly Father now.
Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at Fitzgerald Southwood from 9am-5pm, with a private family graveside service at Calvary Cemetery on August 5, 2020 at 9:30 am.
