Martha Maria Unklesbay, age 74, of Jenks, Oklahoma passed away on Monday, January 16, at Saint Saint Francis Hospital after a long and courageous battle against illness.
Martha was born in Dallas on June 26, 1942. She moved to Oklahoma at an early age and happily spent the rest of her life living in Tulsa and then in Jenks. She was raised by her grandmother, Martha Jernigan, and graduated from Marquette High School. She was married to Raymond Unklesbay on August 4, 1972. He preceded her in death on August 26, 2010.
Martha devoted her life to her family who gave her great joy. She worked as a team member at Arby's Roast Beef in Jenks for the past 40 years. She was an original employee of the Jenks store and February, 2017 would have been her 41st anniversary. Martha initially began work at Arby's in order to have flexible hours to more easily shuttle her daughter to and from from soccer, Girl Scouts and other after-school activities. Being a very social person, she enjoyed the interactions with the customers and came to know many of them through the years.
Besides socializing, Martha loved Elvis Presley and collected all forms of memorabilia. She owned every record he ever recorded and had fallen in love with him the first time she heard him sing. He was perhaps the love of her life. She also loved red roses and anything else red. The red shirts in her closet are too numerous to count.
Martha had a kind, loving and generous spirit. She had a firm faith and God which carried her through life and and an unending optimism and resilience. She was a wonderful role model, mother, grandmother and friend.
Martha is survived by her stepfather, Charles Millarik, her daughter Michelle, three grandchildren - Spencer, Collin and Allison, and her son-in-law Bret, whom she very much considered her son. She was a beautiful person who will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 20 at Calvary Cemetery Chapel.
