Marvin Glyn Burkhalter was born on December 28, 1936, in Toto, Texas. He grew up in and around Springtown, Texas, attending Springtown schools and graduating from high school in 1954. After graduation, Marvin worked as a cabinet maker and boat builder and was also a member of the National Guard.
In the fall of 1960, Marvin met Ann Clark, a schoolteacher in Springtown. They married on August 26, 1961. Just weeks after their wedding, Marvin was called to active duty with the National Guard during the Berlin Wall crisis. As he liked to say, he "defended Fort Polk, Louisiana, fearlessly."
Together, Marvin and Ann raised their family in Fort Worth and were blessed with two children: Pamela Cay, born August 17, 1962, and Bradley Glyn, born April 1, 1966. Marvin enjoyed a long career with Composite Technology Incorporated, where he began by building racing-class sailboats and later managed purchasing operations. He retired full-time in 2002, looking forward to traveling the world with Ann, but sadly, she passed away that same year after over 40 years of marriage.
Encouraged by friends, Marvin attended Widowed Persons Service (WPS) events, where he met Von Newsom. Marvin and Von married on June 17, 2006, beginning a new chapter filled with love, companionship, and many adventures around the world. Marvin and Von were married almost 17 years before her passing in 2023.
Marvin had a passion for travel, frequently exploring destinations across the United States and internationally. He cherished time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and had a gift for connecting with people-always eager to share stories and make new friends.
Marvin's life was marked by love, service, and faith in Jesus Christ. He will be remembered for his warm heart, his devotion to family, and his joy for life's simple pleasures.
He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Cay Burkhalter; son, Brad Burkhalter, and wife, Kendra; granddaughters, Lauren and Reagan Burkhalter; stepchildren, Susan Sewell, Bill Newsom and wife, Carol, and Ben Newsom and wife, Cherie; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
