Obituary

Marvin Joel Mencher, age 90, passed away on January 26, 2017, at the Tulsa Jewish Health Care Center (Zarrow Pointe).

Marvin was born November 2, 1926, in New York City, to parents, Meyer H. and Mildred B. Mencher.

In 1944, Marvin started working as a mechanic for American Airlines at LaGuardia Airport in New York City. He transferred to Tulsa in 1946; and after 42 years with American Airlines, he retired in 1986, as an Aircraft Inspector.

He met the love of his life, Margaret L. Story, and they married August 2, 1953. Margaret had been widowed several years before they met, and although Marvin and Margaret did not have any children, he loved being step-father to Margaret's daughter, Catherine.  When Catherine married and grandchildren came along, Marvin loved them as his own.  After Margaret passed away, he spent many hours with the great-grandchildren.  He really enjoyed taking them to lunch and interesting places.

Marvin was a member of Temple Israel in Tulsa. He was active in several organizations:  B'nai B'rith Tulsa Lodge, serving as Treasurer and Vice President; Oklahoma State B'nai B'rith, serving as Treasurer; and on the Board of Directors and as Trustee, for the Levi Arthritis Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Marvin is survived by: one brother, Stuart A. Mencher and wife, Judy, of East Hampton, New York; daughter, Catherine A. Posner and her husband, Al, of Claremore, OK; granddaughter, Jo Lynn Foster and her husband, Brian, of Claremore, OK; grandson, Stephen R. (Randy) Miller of Tulsa, OK; great-grandchildren, James R. Foster and wife, Courtney, of Blanchard, OK; Ryan M. Foster and wife, Abby, of Rockford, TN; Stephen J. Miller, of Midland, TX; and Arielle Lowery and husband, Mike, of Midland, TX; and great-great grandchildren, Rylee and Wyatt Lowery, of Midland, TX.
