Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Burns, born February 9, 1928 to Alice and George Gaughran passed away Sunday April 21, 2013 at 85 years of age.

Mary graduated from St. Mary's High School in Rutherford, New Jersey and the Traphagan School of Design in New York City. Her talent with pen and paper led to a successful career as a fashion illustrator in New York's "garment district".

On June 16, 1951 she married, Joseph T. Burns, and together they were blessed with 62 years of marriage, seven children, 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mary raised her children in Bloomfield, New Jersey before moving to Tulsa in 1973 where Joseph worked for Cities Service Company.

She loved family time spent at the Jersey shore, and times spent in Santa Margherita, Italy, Hawaii, Ireland and what came to be her favorite destination Paris, France.

She was a long time parishioner of the Church of Saint Mary and active in the woman's club in her earlier years.

Mary is survived by her husband Joseph; sons, Patrick(Joan), Michael(Rita), Jeff, David(Christine)Plano, Tx., Larry(Linda)Katy, Tx., Daniel(Anne Marie), and daughter, Alyssa Anne Burns.

"Mimi's" grandchildren include; Peter, Maggie, Sarah; Whitney(Kelly Shields), Caitlin(Logan Sullivan), Matthew, Shannon, Dru, Casey, Kiley, Brooke, Lauren, Jonathan, Madeline, and Meredith and great-grandchildren, Jasmine and Keegan Shields.
Brother, George Gaughran (Kathleen) of Guilford, Conn. and sister, Joan Radecki (Michael) of East Northport, New York.

"Not to worry" Mom, we will take care of each other and forever hold you in our hearts!

Rosary, 7 pm, Thursday April 25 in the Chapel at the Church of Saint Mary. Funeral Mass to be held 10:30 am Friday, April 26 at Saint Mary's.
