Mary Ann was born July 1, 1932, in Tulsa, OK, the daughter of Thomas Charles and Mabel Clara (Norvell) Quinn. Her family moved to North Little Rock, Arkansas, when she was 2, then returned to Tulsa at the age of 15. She graduated high school from Marquette in 1950. She continued her education at Ursuline College in Kansas, then at TU, majoring in business courses. She moved to Denver in 1954, where she met fellow Tulsan Robert S. Emery. They returned to Tulsa and married on September 10, 1955. She worked as an administrative professional at KVOO until 1957, when she became a full-time mother and homemaker. She returned to work when her youngest started school. She was employed as a loan closer at Frontier Federal Savings and Loan, then as an accountant at Helmerich and Payne. She retired from Helmerich and Payne in 1995 and was soon at work again for several charitable organizations, including Assistance League, Bargains Thrift Shop, Meals on Wheels, St Pius Women's Club, and Omega Pi Sorority. She was so busy after retirement, she would say she might go back to work so she could get a rest.
She was proud to be one of the founding families of St. Pius X Catholic church and was always involved in church activities. She loved watching Oklahoma college sports and Thunder basketball.
