Obituary

Mary Louise "Lou" Sullivan Mackin, 82, born February 2, 1934 in Detroit, MI. A resident of Tulsa and member of St. Mary's Parish since 1965, she transitioned to heaven quietly Monday, May 30, 2016, surrounded by family.

Lou was married for forty-eight years to Edward S. Mackin (1932 -2002). She is survived by her children: Brigid O'Rourke, Patrick O'Rourke, Brian O'Rourke, Steven Mackin and wife Lyn, Moirna O'Rourke and husband Kevin Hart, Tim Mackin and wife Mavis, Randy Mackin and wife Kelli, Dennis Mackin and wife Michelle, John O'Rourke, Shelley Mackin and partner Nancy Coryell, and Melissa Beers and husband Terry. She was cherished by 24 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Lou is survived by sisters: D.A. McGillivray, Margaret Williamson, Theresa Berry; and brother, Ted Sullivan. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Edward Mackin; her parents, Joseph and Dorothy Sullivan; brothers, Paul, Frank, Bernie; and sister, Denise.

Lou was a woman of great passion, enthusiasm, and grace. "Eddard" was the love of her life, followed closely by family, great friends, world travel, dancing, bridge, Bishop Kelley and TU athletics, holiday celebrations, a good glass of Chardonnay, and a great cup of coffee. Lou adored the Tulsa Oktoberfest where she volunteered as a greeter and was a fierce promoter of the Chicken Dance for over 20 years. For her, every day was glorious and every stranger a potential friend. After Ed's passing she continued to travel, sailing in Belize, exploring the inside of a pyramid in Egypt, climbing nearly 1200 steps to the top of St. Peter's in Rome, then reading the Epistle at one of the masses there.

She instilled in her children a sense of kindness and a spirit of love, somehow managing to prove that there was always enough love to go around. Her strong faith in God was evident every day in the way she lived her life. Lou gave generously of her time as a volunteer, as a spotter for football games for Bishop Kelley, a team Mom for numerous little league/softball teams. She tutored children in reading and volunteered at the Madonna house, the Serra club, the Newman Center, and the parishes of St Mary's Church and St. Mark's Church, in Pryor. She worked many years in real estate and retired from the Tulsa County Clerk's office. When asked how she got it all done she would say "You just do what you have to do."

Lou's smile, sense of humor, and boundless enthusiasm will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her. We know that she is dancing in Heaven.

Rosary to be said at 7 PM on Friday, June 17, 2016, and The Celebration of Life will be at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, both at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1347 E 49th Pl, Tulsa, OK 74105.
