Mary deCamp
Miller
August 6, 1955 – June 1, 2026
Fitzgerald's Southwood Colonial Chapel
2:00 - 3:00 pm (Central time)
Mary Louise deCamp Miller, born August 6, 1955, in Claremore, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, after a month-long battle with a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer, multiple myeloma. In her final moments, she was surrounded by those she loved most. She faced her illness with quiet strength, and in the end, she was free of pain and unafraid.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Mac Wilson deCamp and June Bryan deCamp, and her beloved nephew, Matt Scheer.
She is survived by her two sons, Ben Miller (47) and Blair Miller (45). Ben and his wife, Kallie, have two sons, Jake (17) and Owen (14). Blair and his wife, Ashley, have two daughters, James (8) and Henry (6). Mary is also survived by her siblings: Judy Jarvis and her husband Jim, with children Molly Jarvis Rutterford (husband Chuck; son Cameron) and Andy Jarvis (sons Abram and River); Susette Scheer and her husband Joe, with daughter Emily Ogilvie (daughter Julia); her brother John deCamp and his wife Catherine, with daughter Caroline; her aunt Carolyn Ellis; and her beloved dog Oscar.
Mary grew up in Tulsa, where she was, by all accounts, a kind and goodhearted child. At the age of 12, she met Beth Davis, who became her lifelong best friend and remained by her side until the very end.
After graduating from McClain High School in 1973, Mary briefly attended Oklahoma State University before returning to Tulsa and becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant in 1974-an early step toward what would become her life's calling. In 1975, she enrolled at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, where she met Brad Miller. The two were married in 1977 and made their home in Norman. Mary welcomed her first son, Ben, in May 1979, followed by Blair in October 1980.
In 1985, the family moved to Midland, Texas, where Mary devoted herself to raising her sons. As they grew older, she returned to school to earn her Registered Nurse credential in 1993. Upon graduation, she immediately began working as a hospice nurse-a role that revealed her extraordinary gift for caring for others at the most difficult moments of their lives.
Hospice nursing proved not just a career, but a calling. Mary brought compassion, dignity, and peace to patients and families navigating the final stages of life. Her empathy and steady presence helped make unbearable moments more bearable.
After Blair left for college, Mary returned to Tulsa, where she continued her work in hospice care and later advanced her education in nursing, earning her Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma Wesleyan University in 2004 and her Master of Science degree from Southern Nazarene University in 2011. Over the course of her career, Mary was widely respected by colleagues for her skill, professionalism, and kindness. She also shared her knowledge with hundreds of students as a nursing instructor/professor, instilling in them the same standards of care that defined her own practice. Countless families were blessed by her presence during their most vulnerable times.
In April of 2009, Mary became a grandmother when Jake was born and later welcomed Owen, James, and Henry. Known lovingly as "Mimi," she cherished her grandchildren deeply. Whether hosting them in Tulsa or traveling to Houston and Los Angeles for holidays and milestones, she found her greatest joy in being with her family. In recent years, her happiest moments were spent during summer vacations with her children and grandchildren, together as a complete family.
Though she gave so much of herself to her patients, students, and colleagues as a nurse, those closest to her were the most fortunate. As a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother, Mary filled the lives of her family with love, joy, and steady support.
A woman of quiet but enduring faith, Mary ultimately succumbed to the same disease that claimed so many of the patients she so compassionately served the last 31 years of her life. Even so, she met the end of her life with peace, dignity, and grace.
Mary Louise deCamp Miller will be deeply missed, but her legacy of kindness, compassion, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She was our family treasure.
A celebration of Mary's life will be held on her birthday, August 6, 2026, at Fitzgerald's Southwood Colonial Chapel, 3612 E. 91 Street S., Tulsa, Oklahoma 74137 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Mary's name to the cancer research foundation, charity, or organization of your choice.
