Born February 9, 1927, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Mary was the third born of four children to Eva Mae and Martin (Pete) Davis McAnally in Tulsa Oklahoma. Graduating from Rogers high school she embarked on a singing career performing regularly on a Tulsa radio station. She married James A Murphy April 14, 1948. They had one son in August of 1949, James R Murphy.
Now a mother she devoted her time to raising her only son. She often served as a substitute teacher and cub scout den mother. She continued to love music with a special love of opera and symphony, taking her son to many performances. The sound of classical music was a constant in her home and was played continually during her final days in the nursing home. Mary had a helping heart as she provided a home to many young women and men whatever their situation was. While pursuing her lifelong work as a bookkeeper. She worked for many oil and gas companies in Tulsa her entire life until problems with her eyes forced her to retire. Mary loved working and the hardest thing for her to surrender too was giving up the ability to drive. She loved her independence and was determined to stay in her Tulsa home.
Mary had always loved to read, work crossword puzzles or anything that stimulated her brain. When her eyes failed her, she continued to listen to audio books. She really enjoyed game shows like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, most people knew not to call her while she watched her game shows. A lot of her time was spent caring for her Maltese dogs over the years and later for others in need of a loving home. Her last dog (Mini) was among her favorites and now resides forever with her son and his wife Diane. Mary cherished visits from Diane so they could have what she called "girl talk"!
