Mary Martin Taylor Letcher passed away Monday, June 18, 2012, at her home in Tulsa, OK. She was born January 6, 1940 in Lexington, KY, to Amos Turney Taylor and Betty Roberts Taylor. A 1958 graduate of Bourbon County High School, she went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in chemistry plus a lifetime teaching certificate from the University of Missouri. Martin (as she was called by all of her many friends) became a skilled cook and gracious hostess. She loved the arts and supported numerous causes, including Chamber Music Tulsa, Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, Tulsa Ballet, and Tulsa Opera. She served on the boards of the Arts and Humanities Council of Tulsa and the Higher Education Cultural Roundtable. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, John H. Letcher, PhD., retired Professor of Computer Science at the University of Tulsa. She is also survived by Charles and Betsy Letcher of Tulsa, their children Stefani and Charles Wesley, and Henry and Jennifer Letcher of Castle Rock, Colorado, and their children Jarina and Sean.
The family wishes to express gratitude to many people including the Saint Francis Hospice. In lieu of flowers, friends can honor her memory with contributions to Chamber Music Tulsa. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, June 23rd, at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel, 3612 E. 91st St. South.
