Mathew (Matt) Cain, age 61, died on July 23rd, 2022 after a courageous battle with the cruel and merciless Frontotemporal Dementia. His transition into heaven was peaceful at home in Broken Arrow surrounded by family. Matt was born on August 29th, 1960 in Lafayette, IN, to parents John "Ed" and Charlotte (Halsema) Cain. He graduated from Tri County High School in the class of 1978, then furthered his education by attending Purdue University. In 1980, Matt married his high school sweetheart Laura (Laurie) Longest and they settled in Brookston, IN. They moved to Broken Arrow, OK in 1989 with their children Katie and Zach when Laurie accepted a job at the new State Farm Regional office. In 1994, Matt joined the Tulsa Fire Department and served 25 years until he retired in 2019. Matt served as the Broken Arrow Youth Basketball President where he also coached his son Zach for many years. Matt enjoyed playing golf, cheering on the Boilermakers, Sooners and spending time with friends and family, especially his grandsons Milo and August Mathew. Matt will be remembered as someone who would selflessly help a neighbor in need. He built countless back decks, fences, roofs, cornhole boxes, flower beds...whatever anyone needed, he would help.

He is survived by his wife Laurie (Longest) Cain, children Katie (Brendon) Maguffee and Zach Cain. Grandsons Milo and August Maguffee. Brothers Dennis (Diana) Cain, Joe Cain, Tony (Michelle) Cain, Marty (Cathy) Cain and Wally (Nancy) Cain, Sisters-in-Law Susan Streater and Juli Cain, Ann Cain, Brother-in-Law Dennis Longest, Mother-in-Law Judy Longest as well as many nieces and nephews whom he adored. He also leaves behind many Tulsa Fire Department brothers and friends. These friends and brothers never left his side. While his body and voice began to fail him, he recognized and understood his visitors until his final breath. Special thanks to Traditions Hospice for their loving care for Matt during his illness.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Sam and Lou Cain, Father-in-Law Gerald Longest and Sister-in-Law Gail Cain, nephew Greg Cain.

Matt's visitation will be held Thursday 7/28 6:00-8:00 pm (Rosary 7:30) and funeral is 10:00 am Friday 7/29; both at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Broken Arrow.
