Obituary

Mavis Jean Bacquet, age 98, died on May 30, 2024, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Mavis was born on May 28, 1926, in Shoreditch, Somerset, England, to parents Kate and Frank Chandler. She completed the equivalent of 8th grade in Taunton, Somerset, England at age 14, then began working in a war-time silk mill in the early years of WWII, in Taunton. Mavis met Charles Ray Glover, an Oklahoma Army Air Corpsman, stationed in England. Mavis and Ray dated, finding ways to meet during the war. Mavis continued working, living at home with her parents and younger brother Mervyn. Mavis and Ray married on November 19, 1945, at St. John's Church in Taunton. Mavis traveled to the US on the Queen Mary, while her husband was deployed to Germany. She traveled by train from New York to Oklahoma and was pleasantly surprised to see her husband welcome her to Oklahoma when she arrived. They made their home in Tulsa, where they raised 3 children. Ray died in 1960 of cancer.
Mavis worked as a draftswoman for Mid-Continent Map Company. She met and married her second husband Charles Bacquet in 1966. Mavis and Charlie raised their blended family of 5 boys and 3 girls. Mavis and Charlie traveled to England, Italy, Switzerland, Canada, and across the United States, including a trip to Hawaii. Mavis eventually retired from the map company. She loved to garden and was justifiably proud of her beautiful flower beds. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She never left her love of England behind.
She is preceded in death by her parents Kate and Frank, husbands Ray and Charlie, brother Mervyn, sons David Glover, Rick Glover, and Russell Bacquet, and grandchildren Cade Sellers, Thomas Glover, and Gennie Harding.
She is survived by daughters Sheryl Glover, Cindy Harding, and Angie Fineran (Dave), sons Jim Bacquet (Carol), and John Bacquet, grandchildren N. Shannon Cole (Ron), Shon Glover (Cristina), Shelby Garrison (Clay), Ricky Glover (Amber), Christopher Bacquet (Diana), Riva Chacon Bacquet (Carlo), Bryan Harding, Leslie O'Connell (Rick), Daniel Glover, Johnathon Bacquet, Jeremy Bacquet, Gabe Bacquet (Paige), Alec Bacquet, and Kyle Anderson, as well as numerous great-grandchildren, and relatives in the U.K.
