Obituary

Max Gerald Tipton, age 93, went to be with the Lord Sunday March 13, 2016. Max was born June 29, 1922 in Amarillo, Texas to Colonel and Daisy (Moore) Tipton, the youngest of 6 children. He grew up working on the family farm in east Texas. He graduated from high school in Rusk, Texas in 1940 and shortly after his father's death, he and his mother moved to Dallas, Texas, where he found work in order to support her. In 1942 he joined the United States Army and served his country until 1946. During that time he met the lovely Jeanie Sevier at Pearl and Bryan Church of Christ in Dallas. They married in 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland.

After the army, Max studied at SMU and IBM Business School in Dallas. He had a successful career as a Regional Manager at Blue Cross Blue Shield for more than 20 years in Waco and Abilene. In 1966 he founded Nutone Cleaners, eventually expanding to 12 stores in Waco and Abilene.

Throughout Max's life his heart's desire was to share the gospel.  As a young man, he and Jeanie planted churches in East Texas for many years. In Waco, he served as an elder at Crestview Church of Christ until he moved to Abilene, where he also served as an elder at Minter Lane Church of Christ.  In 1981 he founded Abilene Community Church and served as Sr. Pastor until he retired in 1998. Max and Jeanie retired to Hillsboro, Texas in 2004 where they enjoyed 12 years of well deserved rest.  In December 2015, they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, 5 siblings, his son, Mark Lane, and son-in-law Dean Borden. Max is survived by: his darling wife of over 71 years, Jeanie Sevier Tipton; 2 daughters, Julie Borden of Plano, Texas, and Penny Prulhiere and her husband, Rob, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren, Ashley Borden of Plano, Mark Borden of Plano, Joshua Borden of Denver, Peter Prulhiere of Tulsa, and Sarah Prulhiere of Tulsa; and many precious nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 16 from 6-8 PM at Southwood Colonial Chapel, 3612 E. 91st Street, Tulsa, OK. A graveside service will be held at Calvary Cemetery, 9101 S. Harvard, Tulsa OK, at 11 AM, Thursday, March 17th.
