Michael Edward Glover passed away Friday August 19th, 2011 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Mike was born September 24, 1941 in Aberdeen, SD. He was the son of the late Fay and Viola Glover. Mike graduated from high school in Frederick, SD and graduated from college at Northern State in Aberdeen, SD. He was a college quarterback taking the team to the NAIA national championship in 1961.
Mike married Sandra Thorpe on June 29, 1963 in South Dakota. Mike taught math and science in high school for three years in South Dakota. He was awarded a National Science Grant to attend the University of Oklahoma in 1966 where he received his master's degree in math and science. In 1967, the family moved to Ponca City where Mike worked as a computer analyst for three years at Conoco Oil Co. The family then moved to Tulsa in 1970. Mike was employed at Computing and Information Sciences Corporation for ten years. In 1980, he and friend John Haley co-founded Viking Software Services Inc. In 2000, Mike retired when the company was sold.
Mike was as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather as well as a devoted member of St Pius X church for 41 years where his five children attended school. Seven of his grandchildren are attending St Pius X now and two have graduated. Mike served as a lector, school board member for many years, Boy Scout leader, choir member, and coach for his children's baseball and football teams. Mike loved the outdoors and enjoyed teaching his sons his love for hunting and fishing. In his retirement, he enjoyed carpentry and building beautiful pieces of furniture for friends and family. He volunteered his time repairing computers for his church, school, and friends.
Mike and Sandy are the parents of five children: Michelle Glover Walton and husband Rob; Mark Glover and wife Lynn; Paul Glover and wife Marsha; Gregory Glover and wife Monique; Patrick Glover and wife Melissa. He was most proud of his thirteen grandchildren: Davis, Donovan, and Cassie Walton; Savannah, Emma, and Joel Glover; Jessica and Jason Glover; Grant and Seth Glover; Gavin, Will, and Ava Glover. He enjoyed every moment with his grandchildren and attended as many of their sporting events and activities as he possibly could.
His parents Fay and Viola preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Sandy; five children; thirteen grandchildren; five brothers: Jim, Alan, Fr. Don, Roy, and Rob; and one sister Jeanne; and mother-in-law Virginia Thorpe. Mike was a caring person to all he met. He always put other's needs before his own. He was a "true gentleman" and will live in our hearts forever! We love you Mike.
A prayer vigil will be held Tuesday evening, Aug 23, 2011 at 7PM at St Pius X Church. A funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be held Wednesday morning, Aug 24, 2011 at 10AM at St Pius X Church.
