Dr. Mindy Whitten, a beloved mother, Wife and accomplished Nurse Practitioner, passed on from this life August 28, 2018. Mindy was born Melinda Lee Solie in Fort Ord, Monterey county, California on January 4th of 1963. In her 55 years she had accomplished many things.
In 1980 she graduated early from high school in Winterpark, Florida and moved to the small town of Shawnee, Oklahoma to attended OBU. There she met her future husband Scott. The two married in May of 1983 and she graduated from OBU in 1984 with a BS in Nursing. She worked in OKC until the couple moved to St Louis where she worked in the Heart Transplant Unit at St. Anthony's. In 1992 she and Scott returned to Tulsa and she started at the Trauma Emergency Center at St Francis Hospital. She continued her education by completing her Masters in Nursing in 1997 as a Nurse Practitioner at OU Tulsa, graduating with honors.
Mindy spent the next 21 years practicing as a Nurse Practitioner in the Tulsa area and as a member of AONP and AANP. She continued on to get her Doctorate as a Nurse Practitioner from TCU. She spent her time providing primary care to her patients and promoting Nurse Practitioners both locally and nationally. She served as the president of AONP twice and was a State Representative with AANP for twelve years. Mindy loved her profession and her patients! She was so dedicated to her patients that she went to work the day before she was put into the hospital.
In 1986 Mindy's Daughter Sam was born followed by her son Kyle in 1989. Both kids were deeply involved in soccer as they grew up and so was Mindy. She was a wonderful mother who attended every game that her kids played, whether in town or not. They attended weekly games as well as many tournaments throughout the years. She was very proud of both of her children.
Mindy is survived by her husband of 35 years Scott, daughter Sam, son Kyle, brother Tim and daughters Shelby and Courtney. Mother in-law Carol, Brothers in-law Clay, Blake and his wife Stacy and Children Luke and Taryn. Her family was her greatest treasure.
