Sue Kimberling, a woman whose life was a beautiful symphony of faith, family, and song, passed away on December 19, 2025. Born Sue McDowell on May 12, 1941, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, to Glen and Ola (Long) McDowell, she spent her life sharing her God-given talents and her generous heart with everyone she met.
Sue's extraordinary gift for singing was the heartbeat of her life. She pursued this passion at Oklahoma Baptist University, where she studied Music Education. Her time at OBU was defined by music and service; she was a cherished little sister of the Bison Glee Club and had the distinct honor of entertaining U.S. troops through the USO as a member of the Tuneclippers. Following her marriage to Don Kimberling, Sue began a career dedicated to harmony. As a music teacher in both public schools and church ministry, she shared the joy of song with generations of students, ensuring that her love for music would live on in others.
Beyond her music, Sue was a gifted hostess who loved to entertain. Her kitchen was the heart of many gatherings, and family and friends will forever remember the flavor of her famous cashew chicken and her pork roast with apricot sauce. When she wasn't at the piano or in the kitchen, Sue found her greatest inspiration in the mountains of Colorado. It was there, among the peaks and the pines, that she felt she could truly see God's Glory, finding peace in the majesty of creation.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband James Donald Kimberling, and her older brother, Raymond McDowell. Her spirit is carried on by her sister, Glenda McDowell Hamman, and her three children, Kari Lynn Romoser, Dr. Matt Kimberling, and Tim Kimberling. She also leaves behind a legacy of eight grandchildren who were the light of her life: Jake, Zach, Luke, and Lexi Romoser, and Amelia, Ben, Aidan, and Owen Kimberling.
A celebration of Sue's life and the music she shared will be held at 2:00 PM on January 3, 2026, at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel.
