Miriam Herr Roy is now in the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ, after departing this earth at 93 years old in Tulsa, OK. She was a devout Catholic and relied on her faith to accept life's challenges.
Miriam was the youngest of five children born to Anna Peter Herr and Francis Joseph Herr on October 29, 1929 in Ardmore, OK.
Miriam was a thoughtful and sympathetic woman who always reminded us to be kind to others. As a young teenager, she took special care to comfort a neighbor whose teenage daughter died unexpectedly. She spent time with the mother in her garden chatting, reminiscing about the daughter and providing support for her loss. In turn, the neighbor taught our mother about gardening and what it means to love a child with all your heart. Our mother was the best role model for showing compassion and unconditional love.
She raised her family in Ardmore, Oklahoma and Atlanta, Georgia. While in Ardmore, she spent her time sewing beautiful dresses for her daughters, canning the garden harvest, taking care of the animals, and making sure the "girls" did not get the best of her only son.
In Atlanta, she tirelessly chauffeured her children to a wide variety of sporting events, coordinated piano practice, math tutors, swimming lessons and every imaginable activity for her six children. She even made time to join the local garden club, volunteered at hospice, however her focus was always family first.
As her children matured, Miriam began a career with the Georgia Department of Labor.
She was a very loyal, professional, and loved employee. As a job placement counselor, she was very compassionate and received many awards for her job placement skills. While she valued the opportunity to work outside the home, she treasured her children and their accomplishments.
After her retirement, Miriam relocated to Broken Arrow, OK., where she enjoyed being closer to family. She treasured visits from her family, which always brought a warm and loving smile to her face. Although she was grateful to be able to travel to Europe, the Caribbean, and many points within the United States, she always cherished her home.
Miriam is survived by her children: Cecilia Roy Harrington (Charles) of Santa Clara, UT; Gregory Roy of Topeka, KS; Sister Julia Marie Roy, OSB, of Tulsa, OK; Kathleen Roy Akan of Phoenix, AZ; and Michelle Roy Isenbart (David) of Claremore, OK. Five grandchildren complete her loving family, and they will miss their Gram: Andrew Isenbart (Taylor), Miriam Bankston, Ashley Isenbart Smith (Cameron), Joseph Bankston and Adam Isenbart.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Patricia Roy Booms and son in law Dirk Edward Booms; parents, Anna and Frank Herr; siblings, Rosa Herr, Anna Herr, Lucille Herr Tillman and Frank Herr, Jr.
We will always be thankful for the loving care given to our mother by the healthcare staff and the Benedictine Sisters of St. Joseph Monastery in Tulsa, OK. Friends may honor Miriam with donations in her memory to, St. Joseph Monastery, 2200 S Lewis Avenue, Tulsa, OK 74114.
