Nancy Susan Horwitz
(January 27, 1952 - November 20, 2014)
Nancy Susan "Nancylanie" Horwitz was born in Anthony, KS to parents Paul and Bessie Lanie on January 27, 1952. Having fulfilled her career and volunteer callings throughout her life, with diligence, grace and dignity, she returned to the Lord on November 20, 2014. A devoted wife, mother, and servant of the Lord, Nancy enjoyed a 28 year career in teaching, specializing in learning disabilities and elementary education. She grew up on a wheat farm in Manchester, OK, and graduated from Wakita High School in 1970. She completed her undergraduate degree from Oklahoma State University in 1974, and completed her Master of Education degree from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in 1979. From there, she pursued her passion to help children in the K-5 grades to overcome their learning disabilities. Nancy always had a special place in her heart for those who were disadvantaged in their ability to learn or maintain their grade level. Her teaching career took her to many places throughout Oklahoma, including school systems in Alva, Oologah, and Broken Arrow. She retired from teaching in 2002, and eagerly pursued volunteer work at St Francis Hospital until her illness would no longer allow her to work. While living in Claremore she met her husband Dan of Tulsa, originally from Philadelphia, PA, and they were married on March 12, 1988. Nancy enjoyed country music and country style dancing. She was an avid health and work-out enthusiast, and especially enjoyed Pilates. Some of her favorite trips were to historic Philadelphia, and the New Jersey seashore, and finally a trip to Yellowstone National Park just prior to the onset of her disability. Despite her infirmity, Nancy answered her final calling from the Lord to establish a Prayer Partner ministry from home. This service grew to several hundred, and perhaps expanded to thousands of devotees, who received her selected "Daily Scripture" every morning for over 2 years. Nancy's pleasant nature and great sense of humor was contagious. Of all her many joyous and fun-loving attributes, she was probably best remembered simply for her warm, engaging smile that could light up a room, and everyone's heart who came in contact with her.
Nancy is preceeded in death by her parents Paul and Bessie Lanie. Nancy is survived by her husband Dan of 26 years, son Cody Horwitz, daughter Cynthia Barcroft and her husband Scott, son Danny Horwitz and his wife Morgan, granddaughter Presley Horwitz, brother Larry Lanie and his wife Vicki, brother Randy Lanie and his wife Kathy, sister Chrissie McDonald and her husband Jim, brother Michael Paul Lanie and his wife Jan, and sister Deborah Lechtenberg and her husband John, numerous nieces, nephews and their children.
