Obituary

Olena Shaver died in Tulsa, on Wednesday, September 2nd, 2015. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, her parents were Eddi Hatten and Sarah (Breadlove) Hatten."If you pray…Don't worry…If you don't pray…worry"

This is just one of the priceless gems that Olena would share with her children and anyone that would listen throughout her well-traveled life. Anyone who encountered her knew that she had an opinion on just about any subject.

At a young age, Olena enjoyed playing sports and excelled at basketball. She enjoyed watching professional baseball on television with her children and always claimed that the famous pitcher of the Saint Louis Cardinals, Bob Gibson, was her husband.

Olena loved music; she was a fan of Lena Horn, Bobby Blue Bland, The Five Blind Boys of Alabama, Smokey Robinson, The Jackson 5 and countless others. She wasn't afraid to show her children how to do the "Mash Potato "on a Saturday afternoon during an episode of "Soul Train"."I'm not a Christian…I'm Gods' person…"

Her commitment and devotion to community service and personal attention to the sick and shut-in was Olean's daily mission. Whether by face or phone, many were comforted by her words of wisdom and uplifting sense of humor. She was an active member of countless organizations including: Holy Family Church Choir, St. Augustine Women's Club, and received the Silver certificate from the "Knights of Peter Claver". Olena was also an Entrepreneur, owner of her own beauty salon and a practicing beautician for many years."Water from a deep well…"

Her children are the waters of her deep well, and to whom she leaves to cherish her memories: her first-born Sue Turner of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her only son Curtis Shaver II of Tulsa, Oklahoma; her second beloved daughter Frieda Shaver of Dallas, Texas; and her "little brat", Romonda Shaver-Dammicci of Orlando, Florida. Also her grandchildren: Frank Turner Jr., Cedric Turner, Curtis Shavers III, Thaia Powell, Anhwar LaCour, Alexius LaCour, TreToya LaCour, Tquallikka Shaver, along with fourteen great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, devoted friends and church families.

Visitation will be Thursday,10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and Rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m., both on Thursday, September 10th, at Fitzgerald Ivy Chapel, 1402 South Boulder Avenue. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 11, 2015, at Holy Family Cathedral, 8th and South Boulder Avenue.
