Obituary

Patricia Dunbar died Tuesday, February 28, 2012. Born November 3, 1917, she was the only child of Leo and Ruby (Smith) Miles. She graduated from Pawhuska High School in 1936 and briefly attended business college.

After she married James L. "Jim" Dunbar, in December 1941, WWII and the U.S. Coast Guard took them all over the southern and eastern seaboards.

Although Patricia worked office jobs everywhere Jim was stationed, her real passion was fashion design. After the war, they returned to Pawhuska and opened a shop from which Jim made and sold saddles and other leather goods and Patricia designed and sewed her fashion creations. After moving to Santa Fe, NM, Patricia's work was featured in numerous shows, cultural displays, and newspaper articles. She also served as the Chairman of the Santa Fe Fashion Designers organization. Inspired by her Osage heritage and Southwest surroundings, her creations gained national attention and were even worn by several Hollywood celebrities.

But, at times, even the fashion limelight took a back seat to her love of the outdoors. She and Jim were also ardent campers and anglers. They travelled all over the Southwest in search of the perfect campsite and fishing hole. Patricia could bait a fish hook as deftly as she could thread a sewing needle.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and an infant son, Roger, she is survived by her son Gary Victor and wife, Penny, granddaughter Marycarol and husband, Jack Page, grandsons Chris Victor and wife, Sharon, Craig Victor and wife, Carla, Justin Victor and wife, Liz, and Matthew Victor, and ten great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be 1:00-3:00 pm, Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Fitzgerald Ivy Chapel, Tulsa. Rosary will be Saturday, March 3, 2012, at 7:00pm and Funeral Mass will be Sunday, March 4, 2012, at 2:00 pm, both at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church, Tulsa.
