Obituary

Patricia H. "Pat" Miller, 85, passed away on May 7, 2018.  The family will receive friends at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel on Sunday, May 13th from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, and a memorial service will be held on Monday, May 14th at 1:00 PM, at Asbury United Methodist Church, Mason Chapel, following a private committal service at Calvary Cemetery.

Pat was born in Philadelphia, PA to Lynwood and Ola Hippert on July 23, 1932.  Her family soon moved back to Roanoke, VA, where she attended grade school, graduated from Jefferson High School, and attended Virginia Southern Business College.  Pat met her husband, Jim in Roanoke, VA while he was attending the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, VA.  After his graduation in 1952, with a commission as 2nd Lieutenant, and while he was stationed at Ft. Belvoir, VA, they were engaged.  Jim and Pat were married on January 16, 1953, in Little Rock, AR and were stationed at Camp Polk, LA.  They were then transferred to Karlsruhe, Germany.  Upon his discharge from active duty in 1954, they lived in Newport News, VA.   Shortly thereafter, Jim was employed by Cities Service Oil Company, later to become CITGO Petroleum Corporation.  While working for CITGO they lived in Baltimore, MD on two occasions, Richmond, VA, Arlington, VA, Tulsa, OK, Atlanta, GA, and then back to Tulsa for their final move.  Pat was very proud of her Virginia heritage.  She seldom missed an opportunity when meeting new friends to casually mention she was from Virginia.

Pat was a very talented artist and she enjoyed mastering her skill by attending Ginger Leger's painting classes with her friends for over thirty-eight years.  Pat's handwriting was very distinctive with large sweeping and flowing strokes.  She used it in the worthy cause of carefully and thoughtfully selecting a "Hallmark" card for each appropriate occasion for a friend or family member.  Once received, it was immediately identified as coming from Pat by the unique and beautiful style of writing. Some of her friends nicknamed her "forever young" which suited her well.  Pat had a wonderful personality, a quick wit, a great sense of humor, and easily made friends.  One of her frequent comments was "what's the hurry?". She was a beautiful, elegant, and gracious lady.  If one word could describe her, it would be "class".  Pat and Jim have been members of Asbury United Methodist Church for 45 years.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ola W. Hippert, father, Lynwood E. "Red" Hippert and sister, Ruth Manning.  She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, James "Jim" Miller; son, Jim Miller, Jr. and his wife, Belinda of Lake Charles, LA, two grandsons, Mick Miller and his wife, Jessie of Tulsa, Matthew Miller of Oklahoma City; son, Stephen Miller and his wife, Jennifer of Norman, OK, grandson, Jared Miller and his wife, Haley of Birmingham, AL, granddaughter, Jessica Miller of Norman, OK; sister, Carolyn Rose and her husband, Dr. Frank Rose of Charlottesville, VA; and brother, Lynwood Hippert, Jr. of Miami, FL.Memorial donations may be made in Pat's name to the American Cancer Society, 4110 S. 100th E.
