Obituary

R. Michael "Mike" Lang

Mike Lang was born October 1st, 1939, to Harold M. Lang and Bobette Marie McArdle Lang in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mike graduated from Central High School and attended Georgetown University: he went on to receive a Law Degree from the University of Tulsa in 1963. A blind date for a Law School Christmas dance introduced Mike to his future wife, Theresa Karleskint. Mike and Tracy married October 26th, 1963. They had three children, Carol, Katie, and John. The Lang family loved to sail and travel, spending large amounts of time at Windycrest Sailing Club for the entirety of Mike's life.

Before going into private practice Mike was a claims adjuster for U.S.F.&G as well as being a Public Defender for the City of Tulsa. Mike was in private practice for 46 years, 30 years as a partner with Carleton James. Mike was a member of the Tulsa County Bar Association and the Oklahoma Bar Association. He joined Kiwanis in their Tulsa SE chapter in 1968 and eventually became an active member of the Downtown Tulsa chapter. Mike served as President and Lt. Governor and was the recipient of the Hixson Foundation Award. He was also an advisor for the Union High School Key Club. Mike continued his work in community philanthropy and leadership when he joined Windycrest Sailing Club in 1974. He helped with the Junior sailors programs and sat on the Windycrest board, serving in various positions including, but not limited to, Commodore. Mike was founder and chairman of the Windycrest Charity Regatta (1980-2012), which raised over a million dollars for Multiple Sclerosis during that time. He also served on the board of the Gull Bay Homeowners Association, providing sound legal advice and pushing the county to upgrade and maintain the country roads leading to the sailing club. Mike and Tracy attended St. Patrick Catholic Church in Sand Springs, Oklahoma.

Mike is survived by: his wife Theresa (Tracy) Karleskint; children Carol (Monty) Berry, Katie (Brent) Musick, and John (Laura) Lang; grandchildren Madeleine, Sophia, Ethan, and Owen Berry, Maxwell and Macey Musick, and Sydney and Wyatt Lang; and his brother, Richard Lang. He is predeceased by his parents and brother, Dennis Lang.
