Another member of "The Greatest Generation" has passed; Ralph Edmond "Mac" McNally, born December 13, 1923 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, died in Tulsa, Oklahoma on May 7, 2015, at the age of 91.
Ralph graduated from Skiatook High School in 1943 and was inducted into the U.S. Navy. He served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign as an armed guard aboard several Merchant Marine ships, which transported fuel to American forces wherever they were, even in the thick of battle. He was the proud recipient of many medals and ribbons for his distinguished service and was honorably discharged on January 29, 1946, with the rank of Seaman First Class, V-6 SV USNR.
He attended Northeastern Oklahoma University in Tahlequah and Tulsa University.
Ralph began his 34-year career with Oklahoma Natural Gas Co. as a meter reader, and after many years as Chief Clerk of Engineering, he retired in 1981.
"Mac" was an active member of The American Legion for 70 years, parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, Skiatook, for over 80 years, and proud resident of Skiatook most of his life.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Helen Rose DeShazer; his parents, William J. McNally, Sr. and Alma Dibb McNally; and his brother, William J. McNally, Jr.
He is survived by his sister, Rosemary Gates of Tulsa; two nieces and a nephew, Angela (and Hugh) Schaefer, of Marana, AZ, Joe (and Renee) Gates of Tulsa, and Susan Koke of Broken Arrow; and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Visitation will be at Fitzgerald Ivy Chapel, 1402 South Boulder Avenue, Tulsa, on Wednesday, May 13, from 9 AM until 5 PM. Rosary will be said on Wednesday, 7 PM, and Funeral Mass will be 10 AM, Thursday, both at Sacred Heart Church in Skiatook. Interment will be at Osage Gardens Cemetery in Skiatook.
