Obituary

Regis McMahon, 81, passed away, April 18, 2011 peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous 7 year battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Regis was born on August 6, 1929, in Monessen, Pennsylvania to John and Ethel McMahon. He moved to Canton, Ohio at the age of twenty where he met the love of his life, Nancy Herbst. Regis was a faithful and loving man always putting his family and church first. Regis and Nancy have been married for 56 years and together they have 11 children and 28 grandchildren. In Canton he was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church where he was active in the church choir, president of the parish student council and a 3rd degree knight of the Knights of Columbus. In 1971 he moved his family to Tulsa, Oklahoma. He and Nancy joined the Church of St. Mary, where Regis was involved in the church choir, religious education, parish council, Eucharist Ministry, and started and led the Hill Toppers (50 plus club) for nine years. He loved camping and swimming with his family, fishing and hunting with his sons, and taking his kids and grandchildren water skiing. He also was actively involved in his children's many sports and extra curricular activities. Regis served in the army during the Korean War and earned the rank of Sergeant 1st Class. Regis was a professional salesman. He started his career in Canton, OH with Treen's Carpet and Draperies and then worked for Curtis Industries. In 1971 he was promoted to Regional Marketing Manager and moved his family to Tulsa. Later in Tulsa Regis worked for Sterling Bolt, Tulsa Screw Products, Troco Oil and then retired from Universal Lubricants in 1996. In his retirement years, Regis enjoyed traveling with his wife, helping his daughter with her accounting firm, and golfing in a men's senior league.

Regis was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. He is survived by his loving wife Nancy, and his children and grandchildren; Kay and Dan Schmitz (Maggie & Matt), Bryan and Theresa McMahon (Patrick, Michelle, Maureen, & Kelsie), Kevin and Lyndia McMahon (Eric & Ethan), Carol and Kirk Shell (Nicole & Jake), Richard McMahon, Karen and Jim Anderson (Michael & Christina), Don and Donna McMahon (Lauren, Luke, Lane, & Landon), David & Shana McMahon (Erin, Katie & Brenden), Maria and Doug Austin (Andrea, Courtney, Emily & Valerie), Laura and Steve Paul (William & Megan), and Tricia and Dave Schlittler (Ryan, Rachel & Jackson). Regis is also survived by his brother Jack, and his sisters Roseann Campbell, Mary King, and Regina Welch.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to CurePSP, www.curepsp.org , in his memory. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fitzgerald's. Visitation will be at 2 – 4 PM Tuesday, April 19th at Fitzgerald's Southwood Colonial Funeral Home followed by a rosary and a celebration of his life at 7 PM at the Church of St. Mary. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, April 20th at 10 AM at the Church of St. Mary.
