Richard R. Gowens, son of James and Ada Gowens, passed away on April 18, 2021 at the age of 97, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest. Richard is survived by his wife of 50 years, Catalina; daughters Angela, Sandra, Paloma, and their respective spouses Randy, Jason, and Victor; and 10 grandchildren Espen, Isaac, Kaleb, Josiah, Xavier, Olivia, Elijah, Lucas, Sofia, and Alina. After 30 years, Richard is peacefully joining his daughter, Carla, in heaven.
Richard completed his Bachelor's and Master's degree at Western Michigan University and ultimately completed his educational journey with his Doctoral degree at the Interamericana Universidad de Saltillo.
Richard was a man of many trades. Richard is a veteran of WWII, where he served in the Navy. Richard also served as a firefighter in Michigan. In his younger years, Richard began his entrepreneurial journey with a taxi/gas station business, which he ran while he studied. With his early degrees, Richard taught at Covert High School and was an assistant at Western Michigan University. While studying for his PhD in Mexico, Richard met the love of his life, married, and moved to Tulsa, OK where he raised his family and began his journey as a restaurateur.
Richard was a kind, humble, and patient man. He enjoyed reading, gardening, and traveling. He had an uncanny ability to find happiness in his daily activities. Richard's favorite word was "Integrity" and he lived by the phrase, "May I be treated tomorrow as I have treated others today".
Viewing will be on Wednesday, April 21st, 2021 from 5pm-7pm, at the 91st and Harvard Fitzgerald Funeral Home, with rosary following after. Mass service will be held at 11am on Thursday, April 22nd, 2021, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with interment directly following at Calvary Cemetery.
