Richard Delmont Hoover Murphy went to meet the Lord on Thursday, January 27th at the age of 94. He was born May 1, 1927 in Mahaffey, Pa, the youngest of 11 children, to Theresa and Karl Murphy. He graduated from Holy Family High School in Tulsa, OK and graduated from University of Oklahoma. He served in the military for 18 months stationed in Germany. He married his beloved and devoted wife Virginia Fohlmer of Norman, Oklahoma on September 9, 1950. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 28 years. He owned Murphy's Janitor Service for 12 years.
Richard was a volunteer and member for many organizations, Telephone Pioneers, St. Johns Auxiliary, Hospice Program, Irish-American Club, the Day Center of the Homeless, Catholic Charities, Walk for Mankind, Hurricane Club (for 50 Years).and serving beer at Mayfest. Richard was an avid garage seller enthusiast and bingo player. He and his wife loved to travel and visited Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Hawaii, and went on several cruises.
He is survived by daughters, Theresa Rogers (husband Rick) of Cleveland, OK, her children Caitlin McLain (husband Joe) and Zack (wife Shantel); Lynda Crowley of Tulsa, OK, and her children, Jason Miner (wife Bridget), Brian Miner, and Susan Bingman; and Kathy Zimmerman (husband Jim) of Atlanta, GA, and her children, Richard and Audrey. Also great-grandchildren, Titus, Noah, Emma, Allison, Elizabeth, Lexi, and Lillian.
He was preceded in death by: his oldest grandson, Joshua James Rogers; his wife Virginia; his parents; 6 brothers, Guy, Johnnie, Paul, Fred, Tom, Bill, and Jim; and 3 sisters, Pauline, Etta, and Margaret, all of Pennsylvania.
Services handled by Fitzgerald Ivy Chapel Funeral Home, in Tulsa, with 9:30 am Mass at Christ the King Church, on Saturday, January 29th. Final resting place at Calvary Cemetery, also in Tulsa.
