Obituary

Richard Daniel Koljack died May 11th, 2011, after a long illness. Memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, May 14th, at 11:00 AM, at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Broken Arrow. Rich was born May 10th, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois. He moved to Tulsa with his family and attended the University of Tulsa where he received his bachelor's degree in 1981. He received his law degree also from the University of Tulsa in 1985. Rich joined the Tulsa law firm Gable Gotwals in 1985, practicing commercial litigation, and served the law firm in many volunteer capacities, including the board of directors. Rich felt very lucky to be able to do work he valued with partners he highly respected and thoroughly enjoyed. Rich was a member of the American Bar Association, the 0klaboma Bar Association, and the Tulsa County Bar Association. He saved his community on the board of directors of Jenks Public Schools Foundation, the Community Service Council of Tulsa, and the United Way. Rich always expressed true appreciation for the work the employees, and volunteers in these organization do for our community. He loved sports, and coached every youth sport his children played. Always, his goal was to teach the fundamentals of the game, play everyone, inspire sportsmanship, and have fun. Rich was an active and joyful member of St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church in Tulsa, and later St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Broken Arrow. He especially enjoyed working on the stewardship committee, leading youth acolytes, and participating in Journey in Faith and men's group programs. He counted many church members among his closest friends. Rich is preceded in death by his father, Richard Koljack Sr. and sister-in-law, Robyn Koljack. He is survived by his mother Helen Koljack of Tulsa, his brother Michael Koljack of Broken Arrow, his wife Kathleen Koljack MD, and their three children, Katherine Koljack of Norman, Kevin Koljack of Washington DC, and Claire Koljack of -the home. He is also survived by his nephew Stephen Shepherd of Houston, nieces Megan Shepherd of Stillwater and Jennifer Koljack of Tulsa, brother-in-law Michael Shepherd, sister-in-law Suzanne Shepherd, and sister-in-law Ramona Koljack, all of Broken Arrow. Friends may honor Richard's memory with contributions to the Salvation Army, St. Patrick's Episcopal Church or Clarehouse.
