Obituary

Richard Paul Mueller of Tulsa Oklahoma passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 after reaching the age of 90.

Richard was born on January 6, 1932 to Fred Carl and Catherine Lee Mueller. He grew up in Tulsa and attended Marquette Catholic School and graduated from Cascia Hall Preparatory School where he excelled at Football, Basketball and Tennis. He then attended OSU on a scholarship and was fortunate to play Basketball under Coach Hank Iba. After returning from service in the Army during the Korean War, he attended University of Tulsa where he was a Letterman on the Tennis team, member of Sigma Chi fraternity and met his future wife Claire Elaine Mueller and graduated with a degree in Business. In 1957 he married Claire and began their 65 years together.

Upon graduation, they moved to Norman for several years, while he began his successful career as a salesman for William Volker & Co. Several years later, they returned to Tulsa where he opened up Mueller's Suburban Furniture Store. In 1970 he began his long and successful career as an independent manufacturer's representative with Hammary Furniture Co/A division of La-Z-boy, as a salesman and spent the next 27 years traveling Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, southern Illinois and Nebraska developing successful business and lifelong relationships.

Having worked with our father, for over 25 years, I think all of my siblings would agree on this one undeniable truth: There is not one person that we all may know, that would have something to say... NEGATIVELY about our father. And that speaks volumes about our father. He was not only loved, but he was also admired and respected.

Anyone who knew Richard, knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world. When not feverously working to support his family, he could be found helping to coach little league baseball or as Boy Scout Leader, gardening, barbequing and golfing. Richard was also very much involved in the Oklahoma and Arkansas Roadrunners Association which is the pre-eminent association in the furniture industry... and President for over 15 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Catherine Mueller; siblings, Thomas C. Mueller, Joseph F. Mueller and Mary Virginia Mueller; son in law Tom Herr.

He is survived by his loving wife, of 65 years, Claire Elaine Mueller; children, Elaine Herr, Tom Mueller (Sara), David Mueller (Amy) and Philip Mueller; Grandchildren: Christian Herr (Casey), Galen Herr, Tommy Herr, Calvin Herr, Colby Mueller (Cynthia), Alexander Garcia, Nelie Marie Emert (Josh), Katie Smith (Royce), Allie Mueller, Amy Mueller, Grace Vranac (Todd), Andrew Mueller, Liz Mueller; great grandchildren Savannah Herr, Hayden Herr, Royce Smith, and Sloane Smith

This loving, caring and larger than life father and grandfather has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be supremely missed.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2022 at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel.
