Richard E. Roby, 78, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2018 after persevering through many years of illness, chronic pain, and Parkinson's disease. Richard was married for 32 glorious and loving years to Dr. Cathy Kass. His life will be remembered by lasting memories filled with love, positivity, and smiles. He is survived by his four children and their beloved spouses; Rick Meir Roby and his wife Rebecca, Dr. Rhonda Kay Roby, David Garner Roby and his husband Erik, and Cassie Janelle Gray and her husband, Ben. Richard was delighted and so proud of all of his children and their successes in their own careers and life paths. He is also survived by many friends and family from across the state and country including his cousin, Hope Harder, and his mother-in-law, Cece Jefferson.
Richard was raised by his loving mother, Doris Cross Ballard, and his loving Aunts and Uncles. He graduated from Central High School where he first developed his love for public speaking and radio. His early professional career included all realms of communication through advertising and public relations. He later received his Bachelor's degree and Master's degree from Oklahoma City University. His career encompassed public and corporate communications, crisis management, and consulting. He also did mediation work as he truly saw the value in all people and their gifts. Throughout his life, Richard was a natural born teacher, inspiring students of all ages to pursue their talents. Whether speaking to a crowd, a class, or an individual, Richard Roby touched the lives of everyone he knew. As motivating and inspirational as his speaking and teaching were, it was his empathic listening that connected to many.
Through years of challenging situations, he never lost his love of people, conversations, and especially his wife, children, and family. His words, his touch, his smile, and his presence will be missed forever.
