Obituary

Robert "Bob" Murphy passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 6, 2016. Bob was born in Connersville, Indiana, the son of Rose Marie and Dr. Robert Paul Murphy. He graduated from Purdue University with a BS in chemical engineering and joined the Navy during World War II. Following the war, Bob was hired by Standard Oil of Indiana and was sent to the oilfields of west Texas where he met and married Barbara McQuary from Abilene, Texas. They later moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he worked as a research engineer at the Amoco laboratory and obtained several patents over the course of his 35 year career. Bob and Barbara had five children Beth, Jane, Anne, Kaye, and Rob. Bob was very involved in his children's lives coaching softball and baseball and taking his family on many cross country camping trips. Bob was a highly intelligent, caring, responsible, and gentle man. He had a strong Catholic faith and was very involved in Church activities. Bob was always busy and loved home improvement projects. His favorite hobby was sailing his boat on Oklahoma lakes. After Barbara died in 1978, Bob met Chris Darnaby and they later married. Chris also had five children. Together they have 31 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Bob and Chris had a farm in Bixby, Oklahoma where they raised cattle, managed a pecan grove and loved to garden. The farm became a great destination for the grandchildren to enjoy swimming, trampoline jumping, pecan picking, cattle chasing and tractor rides. Bob and Chris loved to travel and went on many wonderful trips to 5 continents. Bob especially enjoyed visiting his beloved Ireland. The highlights of their trips were meeting new people and connecting to a culture during their visits. Rosary will be held 6:00 PM Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel.
