Robert Douglas "Doug" Funk, Jr. died peacefully at home on Monday, August 4, 2025, at the age of 75, surrounded by his family.
Doug was born on January 16, 1950, to Robert D. and Eileen Russell Funk in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the second of eight children.
He attended Madalene Catholic School and graduated from Bishop Kelley High School in 1968, where he met Marcia Mead, his future wife of 56 years. He played in the state championship in basketball, was a state champion in cross country, and participated in Key Club.
He studied petroleum engineering at the University of Tulsa before deciding that computers were the "next big thing." He spent his long career in front of a computer screen.
Doug and Marcia married on August 29, 1969, at Sharp Chapel at TU, and they welcomed three children. He coached soccer, baseball, and basketball and attended countless dance recitals.
Always a fan of TU sports, he enjoyed reading and planning fun activities for his grandkids. He was patient, kind, gentle, and always had a smile on his face. Brother Bernardine was quoted in his senior yearbook as saying, "Funk doesn't contribute, he just thinks."
Doug was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Marcia; his children, Debbie Crowley (Lee) of Tulsa, OK, Brian Funk (Kathy) of Edmond, OK, and Cyndi Hilsabeck (Brian) of Joplin, MO; his seven grandchildren, Chris Funk, Jackson Crowley, Kamryn, Kendall, and Kingsley Funk, and Hannah and Hailey Hilsabeck; his seven siblings; and many additional family members.
A viewing rosary will be held on Wednesday, August 6, at 6 p.m. and a Rosary to follow at 7 p.m. at Church of the Madalene in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A funeral Mass will be held at Church of the Madalene on Thursday, August 7, at 10 a.m. Please wear blue in his honor.
